Who we are and how to contact us
FieldLens Guide is an independently operated editorial website at fieldlensguide.com, publishing research-based guides about binoculars, spotting scopes and wildlife observation. Privacy questions, requests about personal information and editorial inquiries can be submitted through our Contact page. This notice describes the information the website itself and its supporting WordPress services may handle. External websites have their own notices.
Information from normal site visits
FieldLens Guide currently uses Cloudflare for network delivery and security, in addition to its web hosting infrastructure. Cloudflare and the host can process technical requests and network-error information needed to deliver pages, diagnose failures and protect the site. This may include a visitor’s IP address, browser and device details, referring page, requested URL, request time and security-related records. Cloudflare’s own processing is described in its Privacy Policy. Hosting and network logs are subject to their respective retention practices. We do not claim that browser activity is anonymous to those infrastructure providers.
Contact form messages
Our contact form asks for a name, email address, subject and message. We use those details to understand the request, review corrections and respond when appropriate. The form sends submissions to the site’s administrative mailbox and does not keep a separate message archive in WordPress. Delivered messages may remain in the recipient’s email system until deleted under its retention practices. Temporary spam-control records use a salted digest of the email address and network address and expire after 15 minutes. Please do not include passwords, payment details, medical information or other sensitive information in messages.
Comments and profile images
The WordPress installation supports comments where they are enabled. If a comment form is available and you choose to submit a comment, WordPress can process the name, email address, comment, IP address and browser user agent for moderation, abuse prevention and site operation. Approved comments may become visible publicly. If Gravatar is used, a hash derived from the email address may be supplied to that service to check for a profile image. See Automattic’s privacy information for the relevant service information.
Cookies and local browser storage
WordPress may set cookies for logged-in administrators and, where enabled, comment preferences or other necessary site functions. Hosting, security services, embedded content and future third-party integrations may use additional cookies or browser storage. The exact cookies depend on the features a visitor interacts with and the services operating at the time. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser, although blocking essential cookies may affect how some site features work.
Search visibility, SEO and site analytics
The website uses Rank Math for search-related metadata and WebP Express for image handling. These plugins alone do not establish that every visitor is tracked through an analytics script. WordPress search-console integrations or hosting-level access statistics may process site performance and request data. Any subsequently enabled visitor analytics, advertising, conversion measurement, CAPTCHA or marketing service must be assessed and reflected in this notice. Do not interpret the absence of a standalone analytics plugin as proof that hosting or other infrastructure collects no technical data.
Product links and affiliate relationships
Some articles may link to manufacturers and third-party retailers, including Amazon, and the website may receive commission on eligible affiliate purchases if such links are introduced. Clicking an outside link takes you to another website, which may use cookies, track referrals and process purchase data under its own terms. We do not run the checkout process of outside retailers. For the distinction between educational source links and potentially commissioned product links, consult our Affiliate Disclosure.
Embedded material and third-party services
If a page uses an embedded video, external image, font, form protection service or other remotely hosted content, that provider may receive technical request information when the content loads. Ordinary links to external sites generally transfer you to a different operator’s services when clicked. We review site integrations as they are enabled and aim to keep this notice aligned with the features in active use. External services are responsible for describing their own processing and retention where applicable.
Why information is used and how long it is kept
Technical request and security information is processed to deliver pages, diagnose faults and deter abuse. Contact details are used to respond to the visitor’s request, handle corrections or manage legitimate inquiries. Actual retention differs among hosting logs, any moderated comments, and email correspondence. We aim not to keep correspondence beyond what is reasonably necessary for those purposes, but the retention rules of separate hosting and email providers may also apply. A request about deletion can be made using the site’s contact form.
Your privacy choices and requests
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning personal information, including access, correction, deletion or objection to certain uses. Use our Contact page to describe a request and the material concerned. We may need reasonable information to identify the relevant record and confirm that a request is genuine. You can manage cookies in your browser and decide whether to follow external links or submit a contact message.
Security and updates
We aim to use reasonable operational safeguards and keep website components maintained, but no online system or email transmission can be guaranteed risk-free. Do not submit sensitive credentials or financial details through the contact form. We may update this policy as hosting, contact, comment, security or affiliate services change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
